Best Dog-Friendly Hotels in Lake Tahoe: South Shore Guide (2026)

If you travel regularly with your pet, you know there’s a big difference between pet-friendly hotels and pet-friendly hotels that you actually want to stay in. On your next mountain vacation, make sure you land in a hotel that you like, even before you get to their pet policy, with this list of pet-friendly hotels in South Lake Tahoe.

1. Station House Inn

  • Pet fee: $75/stay (non-refundable)
  • Max: 2 dogs, up to 70 lbs (25 lb limit in Cozy King rooms)
  • Complimentary pet treats & pets welcome in the on-site restaurant
  • Address: 901 Park Ave, South Lake Tahoe, CA

A stay at Station House Inn goes beyond your average hotel experience—both for you and your pet. Despite being full of modern comforts and above-and-beyond amenities, the vibe remains rustic and cozy, with warm and friendly service.

The property is the perfect dog-friendly Lake Tahoe basecamp, and your pet is welcome to enjoy it all alongside you. Think cornhole on the lawn, complimentary welcome drinks (and pup treats!) in the lobby, breakfast at the on-site restaurant patio, and s’mores around the outdoor fire pits at night.

And, of course, when you feel like heading out to explore all that South Lake Tahoe has to offer, you’ll be in the perfect location. Walking distance to the Heavenly Village, Stateline casinos, and endless restaurants, shops and bars, the location couldn’t be more convenient. And in true Tahoe fashion, skiing, hiking, a marina for boat rentals and jet skis, plus lakefront beach access are just a few minutes away too.

Best for: Friend groups who want their dogs to be treated like hotel guests too, with pup treats at check-in and a dog-friendly restaurant patio steps from the lake.

2. The Coachman Hotel

You’ll find The Coachman at the top of nearly everyone’s list right now, and one stay at this South Lake Tahoe gem will make you understand why. It’s a modern, mountain motel that’s elevated in all the right ways and simple in the rest. With a heated pool and hot tub, a wellness vibe complete with on-site massages, and a popular café and bar, it offers a proper retreat without a high price tag.

Which, of course, makes it their dog-friendly policy that much more exciting. Pets are welcomed guetss at The Coachman, and are accepted in all the public spaces. Yes, that means they can join you for those nightly s’mores around the fire pit that guests rave about.

The hotel is centrally located, so you can walk to the Heavenly Village, down to the beach, and even to the gondola for easy access to skiing in the winter. We love this one for comfort, ease and the fact that it just feels like vacation while you’re there.

The flat one-time fee is an advantage for longer stays. You’ll pay just $75 total whether you’re there two nights or five, plus there are no size restrictions for your pet. There are only a few pet-friendly rooms—be sure to mention that your pup is joining you when you make the reservation to avoid any confusion.

Best for: Couples and friend groups that crave a trendy, social stay and modern amenities at a fair price.

3. Landing Resort & Spa

If luxury is a must for your dog-friendly Lake Tahoe getaway, look no further than The Landing Resort & Spa. Decidedly indulgent, The Landing goes above and beyond to elevate your stay to a dream-like break from reality. And best of all? They firmly believe that your pet deserves that too.

While luxury staples, like an on-site spa and upscale steakhouse, are a part of The Landing’s charm, it’s thoughtful details like lakefront balconies, in-room stone fireplaces, heated bathroom floors, and a welcome glass of champagne that transform your stay into something truly unforgettable.

While The Landing is conveniently located within walking distance of Stateline, they offer a complimentary (dog-friendly!) shuttle to Heavenly Village, Edgewood Tahoe, the Stateline casinos and even the Reno-Tahoe airport. What’s luxury if it doesn’t follow you out the door, right?

The hotel sits directly across from a private beach, offers lakefront fire-pits and a rooftop deck, award-winning dining, and an outdoor, heated pool and hot tub for guests to soak in aprés-ski.

Best for: Couples looking for an upscale, mountain retreat with lake views, fine dining and elevated amenities.

    4. Basecamp Hotel South Lake Tahoe

A trendy hotel with an epic location, Basecamp Hotel South Lake Tahoe caters to the hip, young, outdoors-loving vacationer in us all. Neighboring Stateline and less than half a mile to the Gondola at Heavenly, you think it’d feel too busy—but it’s a funky little oasis and a great place for you and your pup to call home.

Ever lively and intoxicatingly ‘grammable, they’ve managed to pack all of the coziest mountain vibes into one space. Fill your stay with s’mores and outdoor fire pits, cold pints from the on-site (pet-friendly!) beer garden, live music, and a soak in the rooftop hot tub. In the mornings, the on-site coffee shop makes grabbing a coffee and breakfast a breeze.

On top of all that, we love that Basecamp offers a one-time fee, rather than a nightly pet fee, and that dogs are allowed to hang with you in the common areas. Note: Only some of the rooms are pet-friendly. It’s best to call ahead to make your reservation.

Best for: Best for social groups who want to be in the heart of the action, and love the combo of a cold, local beer and a game of cornhole with your dog.

    5. Hotel Azure

Located in the center of South Lake Tahoe, rather than the Stateline casino & Heavenly village area, Hotel Azure‘s location is less bustle and more local living. It’s surrounded by restaurants that we love, neighborhood breweries and shops, and most importantly — is directly across from the lake.

You’ll be able to walk your pup diretly across the street for lake views, or head down the block to one of South Lake Tahoe’s most central dog-friendly beaches. Plus, the neighboring Elements Bar & Grill is one of our all-time favorite pet-friendly restaurants (and breakfast spots.)

As for your hotel stay itself, the recently updated Hotel Azure offers comfortable but simple rooms, plus a heated outdoor pool, hot tub, fitness center and free parking. During a summer stay, you’ll be able to head across the street for free concerts at Lakeview Commons—one of our favorite summertime activities. In the winter, the bowling alley, new recreation center and an on-site game room will keep you busy when you’re done skiing.

Best for: Families that crave a more local feel, while still being at the center of it all.

    6. Desolation Hotel

The design-minded will instantly fall in love with Desolation Hotel—a boutique micro-resort in the heart of South Lake Tahoe. Although walking distance from the Heavenly Village, you’ll feel a world away in this modern oasis of townhomes, studios and suites. Thoughtfully designed with private outdoor soaking tubs, fireplaces, Frette Italian linens, full kitchens, and heated bathroom floors, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay in as much as go out.

We love a hotel where dogs are explicitly welcomed, not just tolerated. And Desolation Hotel is as much for the pups as it is for you. Pets receive food bowls, water bowls and waste bags on arrival, and are welcomed in all the shared areas—even the patio of their on-site restaurant, Maggie’s. For the humans, a saltwater pool, sauna, fitness center and dozens of tiny details in between (device chargers in the room!) ensure everyone is happy.

At $75/night per pet fee, the cost of bringing your pet along isn’t cheap. But the quality and amenities of the hotel make it the best value for pet owners who also want a genuinely luxurious stay.

Best for: Couples that enjoy modern amenities and crave a high-end stay for themselves, and their pet.

    7. Fireside Lodge

    • Pet fee: $35/night (1st pet), $15/night (each additional)
    • Max: Unlimited pets, any size — dogs AND cats welcome
    • Pet welcome package: bowl, blanket, towel, waste bags & treat
    • Address: 515 Emerald Bay Rd, South Lake Tahoe, CA

We’ll warn you—a stay at The Fireside Lodge just might change things for you forever. Supremely cozy and comfortable, with a rustic cabin vibe that’ll make you feel instantly at home, it’ll be hard to stay anywhere else after this.

Simply put, it’s a home away from home, for both you and your pets. With no size limits, breed restrictions and multiple pets allowed, your dog (or cat!) will feel completely welcome here.

The lodge itself is a homey B&B neighboring the national forest, with a fireplace in every room, complimentary breakfast, daily wine and cheese happy hour, free bikes, s’mores, and a sauna. Location wise, the Pope-Baldwin Bike Path and Kiva Beach—South Lake Tahoe’s best dog-friendly beach—are right at your doorstep. Turn the other way and ride into town, to South Lake Brewing Company, for a local favorite brewery where pups are welcome too.

Best for: Anyone who prefers a genuinely no-compromises, slowed-down, pet-friendly stay with homey amenities and a mountain feel.

    8. Forest Suites Resort at Heavenly Village

Perhaps the most walkable of all the hotels on the list, Forest Suites Resort is just steps from the Heavenly Village and the Heavenly Mountain Gondola—making it a dream for skiers and vacation-goers alike. The dreaminess extends to pets, with dog-friendly suites, a designated pet area and the trails of Van Sickle Bi-State Park just steps outside your door.

Featuring one and two-bedroom suites, kitchenettes are the standard here, with added living space that’s perfect for longer term stays. Which you’ll probably want to go for—since amenities include free hot breakfast buffet daily, two outdoor pools and hot tubs, weekly après wine receptions, s’mores nights, a fitness room, and a family game room.

It’s an older property, but it’s been well-maintained. From the suites to the shared, outdoor spaces, everything is clean and thoughtfully curated for families and larger groups. Plus, the gondola literally towers above the pool area, so you can be first in line to the ski lifts, all without getting in the car.

Best for: Skiers and families who want to be steps from the gondola with a spacious suite setup and a dog in tow.

Don’t forget! While all of these hotels are verified pet-friendly, we still suggest calling ahead to ensure that the hotel you choose is a perfect fit for you and your pet.
