Listen, we are and always will be big hotel fans. But some moments are just built for vacation rentals. It could be a week long stay or a family getaway; a wild bachelor party or a simple penchant for a home cooked meal. Maybe you’re not massively into the whole meeting strangers in the hot tub situation.

Whatever it is, we get it. These South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals are sure to be exactly what you’re looking for in a vacation home away from home. So, let’s get started:

Stateline & Ski Run Vacation Rentals in South Lake Tahoe

Vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe have had a hell of a time lately. The infamous Measure T passing has lead to a whole lot of changes for the South Lake Tahoe’s homeowners. Namely—reducing vacation home permits in favor of increasing residential living opportunities.

It’s a good thing, really, but it does mean that there are a lot less options within the city limits. Still, you can find a few rental gems, like the Tahoe South vacation rentals we’ve got listed here:

Remodeled Stateline Home

  • $140 avg/per night
  • 2 bedrooms /2 bath
  • Sleeps 6 guests
  • Shared courtyard with hot tub, grill & fire pit
  • Walk to Heavenly mountain gondola
  • Walk to shops & restaurants

Case in point: this tastefully remodeled, 2 bed, 2 bath home within walking distance of Heavenly village.

Now, we generally wouldn’t title a shared courtyard rental as ‘the best.’ But, considering it boasts a rare location so close to the Heavenly gondola and all its’ neighboring magic, we’ll let it slide. For visitors, we really consider this one of the best areas of South Lake Tahoe. You can walk to everything: the beach, the casinos, tasty restaurants, skiing and sightseeing. It’s seriously hard to beat a spot with this location.

It’s also super cute and clean, so, bonus points.

This charming spot is also one of five almost identical units, which can be rented together. When all of the units are rented at once, it sleeps 20 people—and then the courtyard is all yours.

Family-Friendly Stateline Townhouse

  • $377 avg/per night
  • 4 bedrooms /3 bath
  • Sleeps 9 guests
  • Gas fireplace, shuffleboard table & jacuzzi tub
  • Walk to Heavenly mountain gondola
  • Pet friendly for dogs under 35 lbs.

Quiet, but within walking distance of the Heavenly gondola and all of its’ shops & restaurants. Spacious, but with a homey feel and family friendly living spaces. Close to the beach, but also near the ski resort.

This South Lake Tahoe vacation rental really has it all.

Perfect for families or groups of friends, this condo boasts a truly great location plus a comfortable living space. You can stay in, playing on the in-house shuffle board or any of the supplied board games or head out, just blocks from the heart of the action.

Bonus: we love that you get a garage included in the rental. Stash ski gear, beach toys, bikes or golf clubs safely inside.

Ski Run Cabin With Massive Fireplace

  • $360 avg/per night
  • 3 bedrooms /2 bath
  • Sleeps 6 guests
  • Gas fireplace, gas grill & fenced in backyard
  • Walk to to shops & restaurants
  • Two parking spaces

Anyone looking for a happy blend of being close to everything and away from it all will appreciate the location of this 3 bed, 2 bath vacation rental in South Lake Tahoe.

Right off of Ski Run Blvd, this modern cabin is just blocks away from Heavenly Ski Resort, Ski Run Marina and some of South Lake Tahoe’s best restaurants. (Make sure to make your Cafe Fiore reservations loooong in advance!)

Giving off major log cabin vibes, the knotty pine interior, massive stone fireplace and open beams make the perfect setting for your mountain escape. A clean, well-appointed kitchen make family meals a breeze. A fenced-in backyard makes the ideal place for kids to burn off steam.

Plus, in the summer, you can spend Friday nights at the Ski Run Farmer’s Market—just steps outside your front door.

Vacation Rentals in South Lake Tahoe: El Dorado County

Herein lies the distinction in the new South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals rules: outside of the city limits, it’s a lot easier to get a permit. Meaning it’s also easier to find full size houses at lower prices.

Oh, and don’t worry about the ‘outside the city limits’ thing. Nothing in South Lake Tahoe is more than a 15-minute drive away.

Lodge Inspired Cabin With Private Hot Tub

  • $251 avg/per night
  • 4 bedrooms /3 bath
  • Sleeps 11 guests
  • Gas fireplace, private hot tub & wet bar
  • Family-friendly with bunk beds
  • Four parking spaces

There’s two things you really need to know about this South Lake Tahoe cabin: there’s a private hot tub & there’s a caribou mounted on the stone mantel.

That sells it, doesn’t it? How about the open layout and hardwood floors? King bed, fireplace and in-suite bathroom in the master? Perhaps the bonus living room and wet bar do it for you? Or no, you’re more into the epic mountain biking trails that practically wind through the backyard.

Whatever it is, this one’s a keeper for big groups or families that want a spacious, comfortable place to call home.

Family-Friendly Cabin With A Backyard Meadow

  • $359 avg/per night
  • 3 bedrooms /2 bath
  • Sleeps 8 guests
  • Meadow & biking trails from backyard
  • Game room, horseshoe pit & hot tub
  • Private cul-de-sac

If you’re going to rent a South Lake Tahoe cabin; rent this one. A dreamy 3 bed, 2 bathroom house with an expansive entertainment room and comfy, open layout, the real magic here starts when you step outside.

A spacious deck opens up to a sprawling meadow, with National Forest Land and miles and miles of hiking trails just beyond the tree line.

If you know South Lake Tahoe, you know that this house is in a seriously epic location. Hike, bike, or follow the trails to the Upper Truckee River for a refreshing dip. Or, hang at the house, enjoying mountain views from the spa or playing horsehoes in the sun.

Blizzard outside? No worries. Retreat upstairs where foosball, skeeball, shuffleboard and a million TV networks await. It’s really the ultimate Lake Tahoe experience all wrapped up into one comfy accommodation. Doooo it.

Pet-Friendly Cabin Near Endless Hiking Trails

  • $303 avg/per night
  • 3 bedrooms /2 bath
  • Sleeps 8 guests
  • Meadow & biking trails from backyard
  • Pet-friendly, gas grill & spacious deck
  • Two car garage

I guess these meadow view vacation rentals are kind of our thing, since this one—just a block away from the previous listing—also sits steps away from National Forest Land. What this cabin has, however, that others don’t is a dog-friendly policy.

We love that. Because it’s actually pretty hard to find amazing vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe that accept pets. But this one does, and that’s pretty lucky. Since it’s also a gem of house in an incredible location with a recently renovated kitchen and cozy upstairs loft.

We’ve gotta say, we appreciate all of that. And we also appreciate the gas fireplace, floor to ceiling windows and cute French balcony off the upstairs bedroom. Très chic.

Instagrammable A-Frame In The Woods

  • $245 avg/per night
  • 2 bedrooms /2 bath
  • Sleeps 4 guests
  • Fenced in backyard, gas grill & electric fireplace
  • Fully stocked, remodeled kitchen
  • Great for a couple retreat or small group of friends

As far as cabin rentals go, nothing beats a classic A-frame. Especially when it’s dripping in mountain chic decor that makes every corner of the house—yes, even the bathrooms—cozy as all hell.

If that’s the vibe you’re looking for then this exceedingly cute, two-bedroom A-frame is the spot for you. Now, part of the charm comes from the size. This quaint house only sleeps 4, with a downstairs queen and lofted room with two twin beds.

Despite the size, you have everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a modern kitchen, fenced in backyard and spacious deck with a view of the forest.

Five-Bedroom Luxury Home With 360° Views

  • $675 avg/per night
  • 5 bedrooms /5 bath
  • Sleeps 12 guests
  • Panoramic views, spacious deck & 8-person spa
  • Sauna, pool table & entertainment room
  • Private setting yet minutes from everything

Aha, we’ve made it. This five bedroom, five bathroom slice of paradise truly delivers the ultimate Lake Tahoe experience. We absolutely love this place for big groups of family or friends, as it has a little bit of everything we love.

Perched on the mountainside, yet minutes from all the South Lake Tahoe favorites, you’ll enjoy supreme privacy during your stay. Still, you’re within minutes from Fallen Leaf Lake, Pope Beach & Emerald Bay, and a short drive across town from Heavenly Village.

But honestly? You might never leave the property. Between the panoramic deck views of South Lake Tahoe in the valley below and the mountains that frame it to the gourmet kitchen and sauna, we can think of at least a dozen reasons to never leave. And yes, one of those reasons is the jacuzzi tub in the master suite.

Chic Mountain Home On The Lake Tahoe Golf Course

  • $371 avg/per night
  • 4 bedrooms /2 bath
  • Sleeps 8 guests
  • On the 5th fairway of the Lake Tahoe Golf Course
  • Spacious lawn, large deck, BBQ & outdoor dining area
  • Close to trails, the river, restaurants & a bike path

French countryside meets PGA West meets mountain chalet? That’s kind of where we’re at with this 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom masterpiece of a South Lake Tahoe house. Located on the 5th fairway of the Lake Tahoe Golf Course, this house has truly perfected the art of outdoor living.

You’ll be obsessed with the sprawling lawn, framed by café lights and a massive deck, with perfect mountain views as a backdrop. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer the same view from the living room, where you can dine by the fire place or cozy up on the couch.

We wouldn’t blame you for never leaving the house during your stay. But if you do, you’re close to the Truckee River, Tahoe Paradise Park and the bike trails that wind around them. And of course, the town of South Lake Tahoe is just a 5-minute drive away.

These 9 South Lake Tahoe cabins barely scratch the surface when it comes to all the amazing rental options around town. But we love these spots for their locations, positive reviews & the overall experience they offer. You get a home, not just a house, ya know?
